How does a neurologist work?

Neurology treats diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. These disorders often affect movement, speaking, hearing, or seeing and thinking and feeling. The diseases often also cause pain.

In order to assign the complaints to the correct disease, a detailed discussion about the severity and course of the complaints is necessary. This was followed by a detailed physical examination. In most cases, this information suggests which disease is causing the symptoms.

Modern examination methods such as nerve measurements, EEG or ultrasound confirm this suspicion or rule out other important diseases. A radiological examination with MRI or CT is often necessary for this.

With the information now collected, the complaints can be assigned to a disease.

This is followed by a special treatment with medication, if available. Depending on the symptoms, additional treatments such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy are necessary and useful.
